The joy of cycling is intrinsically tied to the health of our environment.
We work hard to protect/support the environment so that you have an environment to work hard in.
Cutting Oil: The mills and lathes on our factory floor cut and shape metal at high speeds with incredible consistency. Our machines utilize domestically grown soy cutting oil to manage heat during the cutting process allowing them to maintain high levels of production uniformity. While commonly used, water-soluble cutting fluids allow machines to run slightly faster, they also require harsh chemical compounds and biocides that result in unnecessary hazardous waste. By using soy oil we have almost entirely eliminated production waste in our manufacturing process, created a cleaner work place for our employees, and extended the working life of our “well oiled machines.”
Domestic Sourcing: We source each and every production component domestically.
Chip Recycling: Each Chris King component starts out as a solid piece of bar stock that is milled, trimmed, and shaved into it’s final component form. This process creates waste metal shavings and chunks that we call chips. These chips are highly valuable and are dutifully collected and processed. We collect the chips in modified oil barrels that collect soy-cutting oil in custom cisterns. The chips are then processed in our pelletizing machine utilizing 400 tons of hydraulic force to create dense pucks while squeezing out any remaining cutting oil. The pucks are a highly valuable to recyclers due to the minimal amount of burn off material i.e. oil and their density allows for easier transportation.
