The KCG Ride to Work program probably doesn't sound
like such a stretch for a company in the bike industry. But,
consider that the majority of our workforce is not a cat 3
shaved leg gear junkie, but rather are the men and women of
the shop floor, who may or may not have ridden a bicycle before
they started working for us - let alone commute to work -
and you see the marvel of this program.
Employees are given café credit for every day they
ride their bicycle, carpool or walk
to work. Employees have a place to store their bikes at King, access
to a full-time mechanic and small parts bin for their maintenance
needs.
There are showers and lockers available to all. All in an
effort to keep people out of their cars and outdoors. It is
good for the environment, it is excellent for the person.
Our ride to work plan is the most aggressive that we have
even seen, at least a dollar a day (for use in the café
or to buy tools or bike parts) for riding your bike back and
forth to work with a substantial increase for commuting distances
over 15 miles. Another increase for people who work shifts
involving riding in the dark.
